Infection is the most common complication experienced during post-operative wound healing. Surgery disrupts the skin, which is the principal barrier against the introduction of microorganisms. Using surgical practices that eliminate infectious agents decreases the chance of infection. This program is designed to provide nurses an understanding of the principles of establishing and maintaining a sterile field in the operating room.
