CNE0025 - Nutrition Screening: Identifying the Hidden Signs of Nutritional RiskIn a survey of 757 healthcare providers conducted by the Nutrition Screening Initiative, a project of the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Dietetic Association and the National Council on the Aging, Inc., doctors, nurses and administrators reported that one in four of their elderly patients, and as many as half of the hospitalized elderly, were malnourished. Most forms of malnutrition can be prevented by early detection. Other types can be cured or controlled. Nutrition screening provides a way to identify individuals at risk for nutritional problems. As a healthcare professional, you may be asked to perform a nutrition screening, or you may be asked to help develop one for your organization. The purpose of this program is to provide nurses an understanding of the types, causes and signs of malnutrition, and how to perform a nutrition screen. |
