January 3, 2006 (Jericho,
NY) – Health Care Compliance Strategies, Inc. (HCCS), the leading
provider of online multimedia compliance and competency education
for healthcare facilities, today announced the release of
a new updated version of the HCCS “Human
Subjects” online training course. The
course is part of the HCCS Research Compliance Suite of online
training courses and is designed to meet the NIH training
requirements on human subject protection for ALL staff members.
It is available now for Intranet, Internet or CD-ROM rollout for
any size organization.
Developed in collaboration
with Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the City of Hope
National Medical Center, and the State University of New York (SUNY),
this course provides an overview of key compliance issues related
to human subject protection. The course covers the regulatory
framework, HIPAA, the roles and responsibilities of various
individuals and committees involved in clinical research,
informed consent, vulnerable subjects, IRB responsibilities,
conducting clinical research trials, and other considerations.
RESEARCH
COMPLIANCE SUITE
The course is part of a
suite of online Research Compliance courses. Other courses in
the suite include “Conflict of Interest & Scientific Misconduct”,
“Grants & Contracts”, and the soon to be released “Professional
Relationships & Data Issues”. Each course addresses critical
regulatory information for research facilities and IRBs.
Information on the suite is available from HCCS at
http://www.hccs.com/.
REGULATORY
ENVIRONMENT
“Regulatory
agencies are continually seeking to strengthen the protections
afforded to subjects participating in research.” says Bill
Sacks, Vice President of HCCS. “The
number of audits of research facilities and researchers is
increasing dramatically and federal agencies are calling for
further scrutiny of patient treatment, finances related to
research and the conduct of researchers.”
RESPONSIBLE RESEARCH
“Healthcare organizations
that conduct research have a responsibility to assure that
research conducted on their premises are conducted in an ethical
manner, in compliance with all applicable federal, state and
local regulations.” says Mr. Sacks. “The HCCS ‘Research
Compliance Suite’ provides engaging, accurate and updated
information to prepare clinical researchers, support staff, IRBs
and institutional officials to meet their regulatory
obligations.”
EASY TO
IMPLEMENT FOR ALL STAFF
Rollout
of the courseware is quick even for the largest facilities with a
built-in registration and reporting system. The courses provide
for job-function specific learning assuring that each staff
member receives only the information that is appropriate for
their responsibilities. Full management reports allow for an
overview or detailed review of staff progress. Courses can be
customized to include internal policies and procedures and to
meet the specific needs of an organization.
The
combination of authoritative content, customized content,
multimedia presentation, detailed management reporting and ease
of delivery provides for a highly effective solution to the
difficult training task required of administrators that need to
train large staffs. The courses are automatically updated when
regulations and requirements change.
Other
HCCS courseware titles include “Fraud Awareness: Professional
Compliance”, “Fraud Awareness: Corporate Compliance”, “HIPAA
Compliance”, “Patient Safety”, “Reducing Medication Errors”,
“Infection Control” and other Quality Improvement titles.
HCCS courseware is currently in use at hundreds of hospitals
