(hccs) is pleased to announce the release of "Grants and Contracts",
the first of six new multimedia educational courses in the new hccs

directors and interactive education experts, the hccs Research Compliance Suite explains clinical research compliance regulations through a series of
entertaining, concise and easy to follow courses.
These courses are designed to address the issues raised in the 2004 OIG Work Plan and
the increased scrutiny that research programs are receiving across the
country.
Major content contributors include the Children's Hospital of
Philadelphia, PA, SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY and the City of
Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, CA.
Other courses in the Research Compliance Suite will include:
- Human Subjects Research
- Conflicts of Interest and Scientific Misconduct
- Animal Research
- Professional Relationships and Data Issues
- Laboratory Research and Special Research Issues.
The Research Compliance Suite will contain over eight hours of
educational courseware.
GRANTS AND CONTRACTS
The OIG 2004 Work Plan specifically focuses on research activity
including the granting and contracting process. "These critical regulations
must be understood by all staff to prevent a breakdown in procedures that can jeopardize an entire organization or program and put critical
research funding at risk, says Mitchell Diamond, President of hccs."
The Grants and Contracts Course educates staff members on:
* The Regulatory Framework, including OMB Circulars, Federal
Acquisition Regulation, implementing regulations, A133 audits, etc.
* Pre-Award Roles and Responsibilities, including a general overview
with flowchart, proposal preparation, budgeting, routing for review, etc.
* Post-Award Financial Management, including budget restrictions,
time and effort reporting, financial reporting requirements, etc.
* Ongoing Programmatic Management, including annual and periodic
reporting, record retention
The hccs Research Compliance Suite is designed to educate research
staff on the compliance regulations they must understand to properly protect
their organization, themselves and patients from breaches of ethics and the
public trust. Non-compliance with regulations can result in costly
government fines, investigations, audits, exclusions and the loss of valuable
and important research grants and sponsorship.
The online software uses video scenarios, audio, text and interactive exercises to create an engaging and cost effective method of
educating healthcare employees on their compliance requirements. Each employee
can select a viewing mode that will match the capabilities of their
computer and Internet/intranet connection. The available modes are Full Multimedia (video/audio), Slideshow with Audio, or Text and Graphics. Curriculum content can easily be tailored to meet the needs of different job
functions.
Courses can be customized to include internal policies and procedures
and to meet the specific needs of an organization. hccs' compliance courseware is currently in use at hundreds of well
known hospitals, academic medical centers and health care facilities. The combination of authoritative content, multimedia presentation,
detailed management reporting and ease of delivery provides for a highly
effective solution to the difficult training task required of administrators
that need to train large staffs.
Other features of the hccs courseware include:
- Simple browser-based interface
