Everyday, patients get infections in healthcare facilities while they are being treated for something else. These infections can have devastating emotional, financial, and medical effects. Worst of all, they can be deadly.
Healthcare associated infections can be complicated by emerging antibiotic resistance. Antibiotic resistance is the ability of microbes to resist the effects of drugs – that is, the germs are not killed, and their growth is not stopped. Infections with resistant organisms are difficult to treat, requiring costly and sometimes toxic alternatives. Dr. Srinivasan will address how best to prevent healthcare associated infections and combat antibiotic resistance.
