Organizations are struggling to meet government requirements relating to mandatory COI disclosures.  The webinar will discuss how “Conflicts of Interest in Health Care” has emerged as a “hot-button” issue for Congress and the media.

We will provide a demonstration of a new, comprehensive, on-line tool for providing disclosure questionnaires to staff and physicians, forwarding disclosures to reviewers based on departments and roles, and for managing the conflicts that are identified through this process. The tool is also designed to gather information which must be reported on the new IRS form 990.

During this Webinar we will also discuss the new HCCS online training course -- Preventing Conflicts of Interest.

This Webinar will discuss the benefits and risks of self-reporting on violations of laws and regulations to government enforcement agencies. The Webinar discussion will include an overview of the OIG self-disclosure protocol and refinements made through open letters to health care providers. An overview of relevant law will also be provided, including:

  • The federal Health Care Fraud statute which has been used by the government when there has been a failure to disclose a known overpayment; and
  • A recent amendment to the federal False Claims Act which clarified that liability extends to the retention of overpayments made to individuals or entities by the government even where no false statement or claim is made or submitted
