Overview of HIV (CE)

HIV is one of the most important health threats of our time. It has killed millions of people in the United States and worldwide. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that over one million people are living with HIV/AIDS in the United States, and that one in five is unaware of their infection. Therefore, all healthcare professionals need a basic understanding of the virus and the disease it causes. This course will discuss the basics about HIV and AIDS. Participants will learn about the relationship between HIV and AIDS, how HIV is spread, how HIV infection is diagnosed as well as how HIV infection can be prevented and treated.

  • Explain the difference between HIV infection and AIDS in patients.
  • Recognize the transmission routes of HIV in patients.
  • Identify tests used to diagnose and monitor the progress of HIV infection in patients.
